# Pair an own-account transfer

Use this guide when you move money between two of your own accounts, for example from your main account to savings. Both sides show up as payments: one out, one in. Pairing them tells the app neither needs a receipt, and keeps the reason on record.

## Prerequisites

- Both accounts set up in the app, and statements imported for both, so that each side of the transfer is in the app. See [Import a bank CSV](/docs/how-to/import-a-bank-csv/).
- The two sides are in different accounts, with the same amount and currency (one out, one in).
- Neither side is matched to a receipt or invoice, and neither is marked **Not a purchase**. If one is, select **Unmatch** or **Needs a receipt** under the payment's **More** on **Bank**, under **All**, first.

## Pair the two sides

1. **Open the payment out**

Open **Bank** for the month the money left. The outgoing payment shows **Missing** and is in **To do**. Open its **More**. The pairing form shows only when a payment in with the same amount and currency exists in another of your accounts.
2. **Choose where it arrived**

In **Arrived in**, choose the incoming payment. Each entry shows the account and the date; the dates do not have to be the same day.
3. **Add a note and confirm**

Fill in **Note**, for example "Savings top-up". It is required. Select **Own transfer**.

If the app refuses with "One of these payments changed. Look at both payments again before you link them.", one of the conditions above is not met: check the amounts, currencies, accounts, and that neither side is matched or already paired.

## Check that it worked

- You land on **Bank** under **All**, where the two sides show "Transfer to Savings" and "Transfer from Main account" (with your account names).
- The outgoing side no longer counts as missing a receipt.

Pairing never deletes or merges either payment. Both stay visible in their own accounts.

## Undo a pair

On **Bank** under **All**, open **More** on either side and select **Undo transfer**. Both sides need a receipt again, and automatic matching runs. While a payment is paired, its other controls (such as **Not a purchase**) are not available.

## When pairing does not fit

A transfer in two currencies, a transfer with a fee taken off one side, or only one side imported cannot be paired. Mark the outgoing side **Not a purchase** on **Bank** instead. See [Match payments and receipts](/docs/how-to/match-payments-and-receipts/).
